TAPEIRE DRIVEN BY RHYTHM
Created, produced and directed
by James Devine.
TAP The
dance step EIRE is
the Irish name for Ireland
Forget Riverdance. Forget
neat line symmetry and cautious choreography.
TAPEIRE is raw, exhilarating
Celtic passion featuring James Devine, the Guinness
World Records' "Fastest Dancer in the World,"
who clocks in at an astounding 38 taps per second
to create a whole new kind of
theatrical experience.
From punk-rock interpretations
of traditional Celtic music and dance to completely
original musical compositions and choreography,
TAPEIRE is the next generation in Irish tap fusing
the sounds of dance, fiddle, percussion and electric
harp; a fast paced live music and dance jam to invent
a new and funky sound.
Teaming up with a motley
crew of mind-blowing musicians, including the versatile
and genre breaking fiddler, Duncan Wickel, award-winning
composer and multi-instrumentalist Phamie Gow, and
one of Scotland's premiere percussionists, Paul
Jennings, Devine, melds breathtaking tap with the
sounds of jazz, hip-hop, punk and Celtic rhythms
in an exhilarating jam session.
TAPEIRE takes the twin
worlds of Irish dance and tap and blends them into
one dynamic form to create one rhythmic spectacle
after another. Exploring the history of Irish dance
from a modern perspective, it travels from the early
sean-nós culture, through Ireland's 17th-century
"dancing masters" to 1980s compettitions
and modern shows with a "freestyle" ending
during which the artists see where their hands and
feet take them.
Irish tap, fiddle, drums
and electric harp with a unique live video mix to
leave audiences gasping.
"
A Celtic rhythmic feast
with twists of modern ingenuity." (Three
Weeks)
"Multi Platinum.... hugely talented....
phenomenal." (The Scotsman, UK)
